CLINTON, MS - Mississippi College head coach Don Lofton earned his 150th career win in eight seasons with an 81-75 victory over the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday afternoon at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The Choctaws (6-13, 5-11 ASC) won consecutive games for the first time this season by holding the Patriots (7-14, 6-11 ASC) to just 36% (23-64) shooting from the floor.
After UT Tyler took a 2-0 lead to open the game, the Choctaws led the rest of the way, extending it to as many as 15 points in the first half. MC would settle for a 42-30 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, MC pushed the lead out to 63-44 before the Patriots made things interesting, cutting the advantage to just six points in the final six seconds.
Junior Brandon Blake led the Choctaws with 20 points, while senior Trevon Malone scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Junior Jesse Taylor had 10 points, making 2-3 three-pointers.
The Choctaws made 5-10 three-pointers and went 26-35 from the free throw line in the victory.
Jacob McDonald came off the bench to lead the Patriots with 13 points, while Lancey Murphy had 10.
The Choctaws will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Texas-Dallas to play at 7:30 p.m.
