Men's Basketball Undone By Timely Skidmore Run, 69-41

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 3, 2012) -- The Vassar College men's basketball team surrendered a 17-0 run to end the first half and never recovered in a 69-41 loss to Skidmore College in Liberty League action on Friday at the Athletics and Fitness Center.

Leading 21-15 with just under six minutes left in the first half, Skidmore took control with a pesky press and a 17-0 bonus-aided run that featured three 3-pointers and six free throws for a 38-15 halftime lead. Skidmore controlled the glass with a 43-22 edge in rebounds, 22-10 points in the paint advantage, and a 17-4 second-chance points advantage.

The Brewers (6-12, 2-7) host Union College on Saturday, February 4, at 4:00 p.m. at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The program will hold its alumni game on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and honor its alumni at halftime. The Thoroughbreds (12-6, 5-3) travel to Bard College for a 4:00 contest on Saturday.

Melvis Langyintuo fueled Skidmore's crucial 17-0 run with eight of his 17 points during the span. Connor Merrill scored six of his 16 points during the run.

In the second half, the Thoroughbred lead swelled to as many as 32 points at 53-21 with 14:27 to play.

For Vassar, junior Jon Herzog posted a team-high 10 points. Freshman Johnny Mrlik pulled down five rebounds.

For Skidmore, Langyintuo added six boards and Merrill tallied a game-high seven boards. Terron Victoria was the third Skidmore player to reach double-digits, with 16 points.
