GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg head coach George Petrie tied the program record for coaching wins and the Bullets held off a big rally from Swarthmore College en route to an 80-65 Centennial Conference men's basketball victory Saturday afternoon in Bream Gymnasium.

The win marked victory No. 321 at Gettysburg for Petrie, who in his 23rd season at the Battlefield,  pulls even with Hen Bream's '24 all-time record established from 1927-55.

Junior forward Alex Zurn and junior center Christian Bors both reached the 20-point mark for the Bullets (9-10, 6-6 CC), with Zurn posting a game-high 21 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists and Bors tying a career-high with 20 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Junior guard Derek Brooks added a career-best 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting and dished out five assists.

Swarthmore (1-18, 1-11 CC), which erased a 22-point first-half deficit, was led by junior forward Will Gates, who registered 19 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Jay Kober added 14 points.

Gettysburg is now locked in a four-way tie for fourth place in the Centennial Conference standings with three weeks left in the regular season.

The Bullets led 35-13 with 5:17 left in the opening half, but the Garnet closed the period on a 14-4 run to make it a 39-27 game at the break. Swarthmore continued to chip away in the second half and pulled to within single digits (43-35) on a Gates jumper with 16:23 left. An 8-0 Garnet run that included four different scorers and capped by a pair of Gates free throws with 7:54 left gave the visitors their first lead since it was 2-0.

Senior forward Tim Lang stemmed the rally with a pair of fadeaway jumpers to put the Bullets up three. Swarthmore came back to tie it on two more occasions, the last coming on a Kober bucket with 4:21 left that made it 62-all, but Gettysburg pulled away with a 9-0 spurt. Gates kept the Garnet alive with a 3-ball at the 1:43 mark to make it 71-65, but the Bullets closed the game a 9-0 run.

Gettysburg opened up its big first-half lead with a 14-3 run spanning 5:39.

The Bullets handed out 20 assists for the game, marking the fourth time this season the team reached 20 helpers.
