No. 12 Panthers hold off Colorado College for 10th straight win

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The 12th-ranked Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team won its 10th straight game tonight with a 53-42 victory against Colorado College on the road.

The Panthers move to 17-1 overall and 9-1 in the SCAC; the Tigers fall to 8-9 overall and 5-5 in conference play.

BSC jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the game but CC stayed close on the Panthers' heels, tying it up 10-10 at the 9:33 mark and 21-21 with 1:17 left, but never pulling ahead. BSC led 23-21 at halftime.

The second half started out similarly, but the Panthers steadily increased their lead, going up by eight, 40-32, at the 11:37 mark, then 10, 44-34, with 7:12 left to play. BSC hit its largest lead, 11, twice in the last two-and-a-half minutes of play before coming away with a nine-point win.

Junior Zac Richards led all players with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting, followed by sophomore Griffin Schamp with 10 points. Senior Caleb Lee led on the boards with 10 rebounds, and junior Blaise Whiteled with three steals.

Rebounding was even at 36-36. The Panthers struggled offensively, shooting only 34 percent from the field and 15.4 percent from three-point range, but committed a season-low five turnovers to the Tigers' 13.

The Panthers stay on the road for their next game, taking on Hendrix College this Sunday at 1 p.m. in Conway, Ark.
