More news about: Becker

Leicester, Mass. --- The Hawks of Becker won their seventh consecutive game with a 60-49 victory over the visiting Pride of Regis on Thursday night in NECC men's basketball action. Becker is now 13-4 with an 8-0 record in the NECC standings, while Regis drops to 7-11 with a 4-5 conference mark.

The Hawks used a quick start to take command, exploding on a 21-2 run that included a fast-break dunk from Terrance Favors (Boston, Mass.), causing  the Becker faithful to rise to their feet.  The hosts were dominant for most of the first period, taking a 19-point lead with 1:06 left after a 3-point play by Tyler Roberson (Irvington, N.J.) to go up 34-15. Regis managed to close out the opening half with a 5-0 run capped off by a 3-point play courtesy of Jonathan Josselin (Medford, Mass.), sending the teams into halftime with Becker leading 34-20. Rajai Leggett (New Haven, Conn.) led the way for the Hawks with ten points in the first period.

Regis attempted to rally in the second half, slowly chipping away at the Becker lead, cutting the deficit to eight after a 3-pointer Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) with 5:48 left and with Becker leading 50-42. This was as close as the Pride would come, however, as the Hawks' defense tightened down the stretch.

Leggett had a tremendous all-around performance for the Hawks with 16 points, five rebounds, four blocks and two steals. Jerome Cohen (Boston, Mass.) was a force in the middle with 11 points and 14 rebounds.  Favors played every minute of the game, finishing with 12 points, six assists and six boards in the process.  Roberson added nine points and two assists.

Regis was led by LaQuinn Shuler (White Plains, N.Y.) and Jonathon Josselin (Medford, Mass.) who each finished with 12 points. Shuler also pulled down six boards. Robert Edwards (Memphis, Tenn.) filled up the stat line with seven points, eight rebounds and two blocks. Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) contributed 11 points and Osanto Marc (Kissimmee, Fla.) added seven points and seven rebounds.

Becker is back in action as they take to the road on Saturday, January 28th, when they face the Eagles of Daniel Webster. Regis is off until Tuesday, when they will also travel to Daniel Webster.
