St. Olaf beats Macalester 68-54

St. Olaf jumped on top 16-6 and went on to gain a 68-54 win over Macalester Wednesday night at the Leonard Center.  The Scots out-scored the Oles in the second half, but could not dig themselves out of a 38-19 halftime hole as St. Olaf shot 57% in the opening period.

 

Pierce Peters (So., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area) scored 25 points to pace Macalester, and also produced five rebounds, three assists and four steals.  Sam Marshall (Jr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) added 10 pionts and Lamont Diggs (So., Fridley, Minn.) pulled down eight rebounds (five off the offensive glass).

 

Alfred Jaryan dished out nine assists to lead the St. Olaf cause.  Bobby Fong pumped in 23 points and Stu Neville registered a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  St. Olaf shot 50% on the game and owned a 17-10 turnover advantage.  The Oles led 34-6 in points in the paint.

 

The Scots look to turn their fortunes around Saturday (Jan. 28) when they play an MIAC game at Bethel.
