PASADENA, Calif. – A fast starting offense and solid defense paced the Redlands men's basketball team to a 74-41 win over Caltech on Saturday night in a SCIAC match-up at the Braun Athletic Center.

Redlands (8-8, 3-2) provided most of the game's offense in the opening minutes as they raced out to a 24-4 lead just past the halfway point in the first half. The Bulldogs defense held Caltech to one made field on their first 16 attempts in building that lead. Conversely the Redlands went 10-for-23 during that stretch.

The Beavers clawed back by getting their deficit down to 28-12 with 3:12 left until halftime but the visitors mounted 10-2 scoring spurt over those final moments of the frame in taking a 38-14 edge at intermission.

During the opening 20 minutes the Bulldogs forced 13 turnovers en route to holding a 16-3 edge in points off turnovers to build their lead. They also held Caltech to a 5-for-25 (18.5 percent) shooting effort while converting on 16 of their 37 (43.2 percent) field goal attempts.

Caltech (5-11, 0-5) got their second half deficit down to 25 points but couldn't pull any closer as the defending league champions claimed the win. Redlands held the home squad to a season low in points while allowing them to shoot 22.4 percent (13-of-58) from the floor.

The Bulldogs placed 13 different players into the scoring column led Tristan Kirk's 16-point performance. Jack Colston recorded his sixth double-double of the year with an 11-point, 14-rebound effort.

Andrew Hogue came off the bench to score a Caltech team best 15 points in 27 minutes. Michael Edwards chipped in a 12-point evening.
