CHICAGO -- Sparked by a triple-double from Tyrone Hughes, Brandeis University defeated the University of Chicago 97-89 in overtime in University Athletic Association men's basketball action Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center.

Game Summary

• Brandeis (9-7 overall, 3-2 UAA) led for most of the final seven minutes of the first half before a long 3-pointer from Matt Johnson as time expired in the period evened the score at 42-42.
  
  
• Chicago (9-7, 2-3) led by 13 (72-59) with 5:29 left in regulation. The Judges sent the game into overtime on a Hughes putback as the buzzer sounded ending the second stanza. 
  
  
• On the game-tying play, Brandeis inbounded the ball with 1.4 seconds to go. The first player to touch the ball missed, but Hughes collected the rebound and scored to force the extra period.
  
  
• Vytas Kriskus tallied seven of his 31 points in the overtime.

Statistical Highlights

• Johnson (pictured) finished the game with 44 points, tying the Chicago single-game scoring record first established by Derek Reich during the 2002-03 season. He also tied a school record with eight 3-point field goals - a feat he accomplished for the second time this year.
  
  
• Hughes had 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists to record the first triple-double by any player in the Ratner Center since the facility opened in 2003-04.
  
  
• Steve Stefanou added 13 points and nine boards for the Maroons.
  
  
• Jay Freeman (18) and Alex Stoyle (11) joined Kriskus in double figures for the Judges.

Notes

• Sunday's game marked Chicago's first overtime affair since a 71-66 win over Case Western Reserve University on Jan. 28, 2011.
  
  
• Brandeis defeated the Maroons for the fifth straight occasion and won its third in a row at the Ratner Center.
  
  
• Chicago lost for the first time in 10 games when scoring at least 80 points.
  
  
• Johnson turned in his 10th straight double-digit performance, while Stefanou notched his fourth in a row.
