BUFFALO, NY— Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) hit a school-record nine 3-pointers netted 37 points and Buffalo State (13-3/6-3) blasted visiting Plattsburgh (6-9/4-5), 110-68 in a SUNYAC game today at the Sports Arena.
Simmons was 13 of 24 from the field, including 9 of 17 from long range. Ahmed Nagaya (Bronx/Astor Collegiate) added 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Nico McLean (Amherst/Amherst) pitched in 11 points and five assists.
John Perez (Haverstraw/N. Rockland) led Plattsburgh with 12 points and seven rebounds, and Junghoon Roh (Dobbs Ferry/Dobbs Ferry) and Shavar Fields (Albany/Bishop Maginn) scored 10 points each.
Buffalo State hit eight first-half 3-pointers, including six by Simmons, to take a 54-35 lead into the intermission, and the Bengals continued to pour it on in the second half. Buffalo State set a school record with 15 3-pointers, shooting 60-percent from beyond the arc, and 58-percent from the floor. The Cardinals shot 39-percent and hit 5 of 19 from long range.
Buffalo State will play at home again next weekend, welcoming New Paltz to the Sports Arena on Friday evening.
