LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's basketball team shot a season-high 56.1 percent from the floor and three players scored in double figures as W&L snapped a two-game losing streak with an 84-65 win over Ferrum College on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.

The Generals (10-7) knocked down 32-of-57 shots from the field, including a 6-of-7 performance by sophomore center Drew Kimberly (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe), in eclipsing the 50.0 percent mark for just the second time all season. 

W&L opened the contest hitting six of its first nine shots from the floor, including three buckets from junior forward J.D. Ey (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) in opening a 10-point lead (14-4) by the 16:12 mark.

The Blue and White still led by 10 points (19-9), before Ferrum (9-8) used a 9-0 run behind four points apiece from senior guard Marcus Mayo (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and junior forward Lamont King (Roxboro, N.C./Person) to pull to within a single point (19-18) with 9:20 to play in the opening period.

The Panthers then tied the contest at 23-23 at the 7:00 minute mark on a triple by senior guard Daryl Hart (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee), before W&L ended the first half on a 22-10 scoring run, capped by a long three from junior forward Jeremy Adkins (Huntington, W. Va./Spring Valley) at the buzzer, to take a 45-33 lead into the break. The Generals hit nine of their final 10 shot attempts to close out the first half and six different players scored during the run.

W&L finished the first half with a 61.3 percent mark (19-31) from the field and held a 19-12 edge on the boards.

A layup by Kimberly to start the second period put W&L up 14 points (47-33), and the lead never dipped below 13 points as Washington and Lee cruised to the 19-point win.

In addition to its season-best shooting percentage, the Generals limited Ferrum to 41.5 percent (22-53) shooting, held a 36-30 edge on the boards and forced the Panthers into 18 turnovers.

Kimberly paced W&L with a career-high 14 points. First-year guard Javon McDonald (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) added 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting and Ey totaled 12 points, tied a career-high with seven assists, blocked five shots and grabbed five rebounds. Sophomore forward Larry Whitaker (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) added nine points and six rebounds and Adkins chipped in nine points, four boards and a pair of assists.

Mayo led all scorers with 17 points, but was held to just 5-of-15 shooting and committed six turnovers. Hart finished with 12 points on 4-of-11 shooting and King had nine points and a game-high seven rebounds before fouling out.

The Generals return to action on Wednesday when they host Emory & Henry at 7:00 pm.
