CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – After some early struggles, the #10 Cabrini College men's basketball team settled down and coasted to a 93-70 win at Baptist Bible College. The win improves the Cavaliers overall record to 16-1 and 11-0 in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.
Senior All-American Cory Lemons (Wilmington, Del./ Glasgow) led four Cavaliers in double figures with 27 points in 28 minutes. Senior John Boyd (Trappe, Pa./ Perkiomen Valley) and sophomore Fran Rafferty (King of Prussia, Pa./ Upper Merion) added 17 points each, while sophomore Corey Frizzera (Baltimore, Md./ Calvert Hall College) tallied 10 points off the bench on 3-3 shooting.
The Blue and White missed its first five field goal attempts of the game, allowing the Defenders to take an early 7-0 lead. A Boyd steal lead to a lay-up by junior Goran Dulac (Levittown, Pa./ Pennsbury), followed by lay-ups from Boyd and Rafferty to cut BBC's lead to one point.
Trailing 18-15 midway through the first half, a traditional three-point play by junior Abraham Bah (Philadelphia, Pa./ Freire Charter) sent the Cavaliers on a 20-3 run, taking control of the game and its momentum. A lay-up by junior A.J. Williams (Wilmington, Del./ St. Elizabeth) just before the halftime buzzer sent Cabrini into the locker room with a 47-30 lead.
Even with a big halftime lead, the Cavaliers continued to pressure the Defenders. Rafftery's three just over five minutes into the second half pushed the lead to 24 points. The lead hovered between 19-23 points for much of the second stanza.
As the Cabrini starters went to the bench, the Blue and White's reserves continued the solid play of the starters. The Cavaliers reserves tallied 23 points, led by Frizzera's 10 and junior Tim Sayles' (Ridgewood, N.J./ Ridgewood) seven points in nine minutes of action.
Cabrini shot nearly 52% from the floor including a season-best 15-27 from beyond the three-point line. The Blue and White also converted 16 Defender turnovers into 22 points.
Lemons paired his 27 points with five rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Boyd recorded a game-high nine rebounds.
Luke Peterson paced the Defenders with 15 points.
The Cavaliers will return to the court on Wednesday, January 28 when they host Immaculata University at Nerney Field House. The CSAC contest is scheduled to begin at approximately 8:00 p.m. following the conclusion of the women' game.
