INDIANOLA, Iowa - Scoring points hasn't been a problem for the Simpson men's basketball team this season.

Keeping teams from scoring has.

But the defense showed up on Monday night as Simpson put together its most complete game of the season, beating Central 89-71 in a pivotal Iowa Conference game at Cowles Fieldhouse.

"We are really confident offensively; we believe we can score with anyone in the conference," head coach Charles Zanders said. "You win championships by playing defense. So for us to hold them to the point total we did is a plus for us."

Chad Boston scored 20 points to lead five players in double figures for the Storm (6-9, 3-4 Iowa Conference), who entered the game tied for the league-lead in scoring at 74.8 points per game.

Marcus Barnett added a career-high 14 points and Zack Barragan and Elijah Knox had 13 apiece. Cornelius Mosby scored 12 to go along with eight rebounds.

After enduring a three-game losing streak, Simpson has won two games in a row and pulled within a game of .500 in the conference after beating second-place Central.

"We are getting more and more confident every day," Zanders said. "We still have a long way to go. We aren't where we want to be yet, but we are on the right path and are going to build on it."

Jacob Winkler scored 20 points to lead the Dutch (12-3, 5-2), who lost their second game in a row after an 11-game winning streak.

Central's defense allowed a league-low 60.2 points per game entering the contest.

The Storm never trailed in the game, using 15-2 and 11-2 runs to take a 20-point lead into the locker room at halftime.

Simpson didn't let off the gas in the second half, never trailing by fewer than 14.

The Storm don't have long to enjoy the win as they travel to Dubuque on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. start against Loras.
