CLAREMONT, Calif.  – A strong low post effort led the Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball team to a 71-47 win over Caltech in a conference contest on Saturday evening.

Pomona-Pitzer (8-5, 3-0) led wire-to-wire in posting the win during their SCIAC home opener. They posted a 41-18 rebounding edge which helped them tally an 11-5 advantage in second change points. The home squad also held a 30-14 edge in points in the paint.

The Sagehens held Caltech (5-9, 0-3) scoreless on 11 of their first 15 possession while building a 21-9 lead just before the midway point of the opening half. Caltech got their deficit down to eight points at 30-22 with 2:50 left until the halftime horn. A final scoring push to end the half gave the home squad a 40-26 lead at the break.

An efficient second half effort by the Sagehens kept their lead at double figures in taking the win. The home squad held Caltech to a 25 percent (5-for-20) shooting effort during the final stanza. Pomona-Pitzer held a 24-7 rebounding edge in that frame to help erase any hopes of a Beavers comeback.

For the game the Sagehens nailed over half their shots in each half as they converted 56.3 percent (27-of-48) of their field goal attempts to aid in their victory.

The forward duo of Jack Klukas and Jake Klewer led the Sagehens charge. Klukas scored a game high 19 points while Klewer tallied his second double-double of the year with a 14-point, 10-rebound effort.

Andrew Hogue had a Caltech best 11 points in 31 minutes.
