(LATROBE, Pa.) - The Thomas More College men' basketball team fell, 86-71, to Saint Vincent College today (Saturday, January 14, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Robert S. Carey Center in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in the PAC. With the win the Bearcats improve to 12-4 overall and 5-2 in the PAC.
Thomas More took an early 14-10 lead with 14:04 to play in the first half when senior center Colt Stafford (Groveport, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) made two free-throws. Saint Vincent answered with a 25-14 run capped by two Isaac Turner free-throws with 2:39 to play in the half to take a 35-28 lead. The Saints closed out the half on a 9-1 run to take a 37-36 lead at halftime when sophomore power forward Josef Marshall (Dayton, Ohio/Trotwood Madison) made two free-throws with 24-seconds to play in the opening half.
The Bearcats opened the second half on a 32-17 run to take a 68-54 lead with 8:35 to play in the game when Tauvon Pettiford made a jumper. Thomas More responded with a 5-0 run capped by a jumper by freshman shooting guard Jalen Clark (Frankfort, Ky./Western Hills) cut the lead to 68-59 with 6:30 to play in the game. That would be as close as Thomas More would come as Saint Vincent closed out the game on an 18-12 run for the 86-71 victory.
Two Saints finished in double-figure scoring as junior small forward Phil Feinberg (Tempe, Ariz./Corona Del Sol) with 17 points and freshman small forward Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) with 13 points. Stafford led the team in rebounds with eight and sophomore point guard Spencer Berlekamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) led the team in assists with six.
The Saints will return to action on Wednesday (January 18) when it travels to Wilmington, Ohio for a 7:30 p.m. non-conference game with Wilmington College.
