Worcester, MA --- Senior Will Bayliss (Manchester, NH) totaled 23 points and seven rebounds to  help visiting Wheaton upset nationally-ranked WPI 65-51 in a NEWMAC men's basketball contest played on Saturday afternoon.  With the win, the Lyons move to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play while the Engineers, ranked No. 24 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 slip to 12-3 on the season and 2-1 in NEWMAC action.

With the score tied at 12 just before the midway point of the first half, Wheaton outscored the hosts 22-9 for rest of the half to take a 34-21 advantage into the locker room at the intermission.  Bayliss had nine of his 15 first half points during the spurt, connecting on all four of his attempts from the field.

The Lyons pushed the lead to 17 points at 44-27 early in the second half only to see WPI rattle off eight straight points to cut the lead to nine points but Wheaton, after a stretch of nearly six minutes without a point, pushed the advantage back to 12 with a conventional 3-point play by Ryan Clinesmith (New York, NY) at 10:21.  The Engineers would slice the deficit to single figures three more times but on all three occasions Wheaton would answer right back with a 3-point play, including a pair by Brendan Duggan (Narragansett, RI).

Baylass canned 9-of-13 shots from the floor and drained all five of his free throws en route to a game-best 23 points.  He was joined in double figures by Duggan, who collected nine of his 15 points after the break.  Eddie Chapstick (Worcester, MA) and Shawn Daily (Mount Vernon, NY) each corralled nine rebounds to help the visitors enjoy a 45-36 advantage on the glass.

WPI's Matt Carr (Somersworth, NH) posted his fifth double-double of the season and 12th of his career.  The senior tallied a team-high 21 points and hauled in a game-best 13 boards to go along with three blocks.

The freshman tandem of Marco Coppola (Watertown, MA) and Sam Longwell (Acton, MA) registered with 10 and nine points respectively with Longwell connection on a trio of 3-pointers.  David Brown (Lowell, MA) anchored the Crimson and Gray defensive effort by leading all players with four steals on the day.

WPI kicks off a three-game road trip on Tuesday at 7pm with a trip down Park Ave. to face city rival Clark.  The game will be broadcasted locally on TV Charter 3.   Wheaton begins a two-game home stand on Wednesday by hosting Springfield at 7pm.
