Hefele and Manning Lead Cortland to 84-58 Win vs. Oneonta

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Harrison Hefele (Greenlawn/Friends Academy) scored a career-high 19 points and junior Brian Manning (Elmira/Southside) scored 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting, including four three-pointers, as Cortland defeated visiting Oneonta, 84-58, in a SUNYAC contest.

Hefele also handed out a team-high four assists for Cortland (9-4, 5-2 SUNYAC). He made 3-of-6 three-pointers and scored 14 of his 19 points in the second half. Manning matched his career best with his four three-pointers and also pulled down six rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.

Junior Jesse Winter (Rockville Centre/South Side) added 11 points, six rebounds and three assists and sophomore Kevin McMahon (Hoosick Falls) scored 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting and led Cortland with nine rebounds.

Oneonta (1-12, 0-6 SUNYAC) was led by junior Nick Sarchioto's (Duanesburg/Bishop Gibbons) 14 points and six rebounds. Freshman Frankie Kelly (Brewster/Kennedy Catholic) scored 11 points and dished out a team-best four assists and freshman Zach Mager (New City/Clarkstown South) tallied 11 points.

Cortland did not trail the entire contest. The Red Dragons led by as many as nine points in the first half and held a 34-28 halftime lead. Cortland's lead remained in single digits the first 10-plus minutes of the second half. Mager's three-pointer with 9:17 remaining drew Oneonta with six at 52-46.

Cortland, however, scored the next nine points to open the lead to 15. Manning started the run with a three-pointer off a Hefele assist, and Hefele scored the last four points. Cortland led by at least 13 points the remainder of the game.

Cortland will host New Paltz Saturday at 4 p.m.
