WASHINGTON – In an entertaining game that featured plenty of back-and-forth, CUA used an 11-2 run midway through the second half to pull away from Susquehanna (8-6) on its way to a 77-64 win on Friday evening.  Freshman Steve Limberiou scored a game-high 23 points for the Cardinals (12-3).

Leading 57-55 with 9:29 remaining, CUA went on an 11-2 run, which included back-to-back 3-pointers by Limberiou, to increase its lead to 68-57 with 5:34 on the clock.

Darrell Carroll's layup with 3:47 to play put the Cardinals in front 72-60 and after freshman Jared Prince got free for a bucket, CUA was on top by a count of 74-60.

Shawn Holmes then sank 3 of 4 free throws in the final 1:59 and CUA pulled its Landmark Conference record even at 2-2.

Limberiou knocked down 7 of 13 shots from the floor and all seven of his free throw attempts en route to 23 points.  Carroll shot 7 of 9 from the field and tallied 16 points, while Prince finished with a career-high 11 points.

CUA did a great job at the charity stripe, sinking 20 of 24 attempts (83.3%) and the Cardinals held a 41-32 advantage on the backboards, led by Chris Kearney with 11 caroms.

Harley Sellinger led the visitors with 17 points, while J.T Wilson scored 15 and Matt Mcgugan added 13.

A Mike Perillo jumper and 3-pointer by Wilson during the early going put Susquehanna on top 5-0, but CUA scored seven of the next nine points, capped by a Nate Koenig trifecta to take a 7-5 lead.

Billy Donovan's 3-pointer at the 12:03 mark put the Cardinals in front 17-13, but Susquehanna answered with seven straight to go back on top, 20-17.

Mcgugan's 3-pointer at the 8-minute mark gave the visitors an eight-point cushion, but back-to-back jumpers by Limberiou and Kearney sliced the lead in half.

An old-fashioned three-point play by Prince with 3:12 left in the half brought CUA within two, and after the freshman sank a pair at the charity stripe two minutes later, the game was tied at 32.

Both teams scored two more points in the final minute and headed to the locker room knotted at 34.

Two free throws by Limberiou at the 16:22 mark of the second put CUA in front by six, but an 8-2 Crusaders run tied things at 49 exactly three minutes later.

The game remained tight until CUA was able to break away with its 11-2 run beginning at the 9:10 mark.

CUA hits the court again on Saturday when the Cardinals play host to Juniata inside the DuFour Center.  Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
