(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Junior small forward Phil Feinberg (Tempe, Ariz./Corona Del Sol) and sophomore shooting guard Cameron Clemons (Louisville, Ky./Doss) each scored 17 points to lead the Thomas More College men's basketball team to a 70-62 win over Waynesburg University tonight (Wednesday, January 11, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 10-5 overall and 5-2 in the PAC. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-12 overall and 0-6 PAC.
Waynesburg jumped out to an early 11-9 lead when Larry Alexander made a lay-up with 13:57 to play in the opening half. Thomas More answered with a 22-10 run capped by two Feinberg free-throws to take a 31-21 lead with 2:35 to play in the first half. The Yellow Jackets closed out the half on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 31-29 at halftime when Alexander made a three-pointer at the buzzer.
The Yellow Jackets opened the second half on a 4-1 run to take a 33-32 lead with 18:45 to play in the second half when Kurt Bonnet made a lay-up. Thomas More responded with an 18-8 run to take a 50-41 lead when Clemons completed a three-point play with 8:41 to play in the game. Waynesburg answered with an 11-5 run to cut the lead to 55-52 on a Bonnett lay-up with 5:06 to play in the game. That would be as close as the Yellow Jackets would come as Thomas More closed out the game on a 15-10 run for the 70-62 victory.
Whelan joined Fienberg and Clemons in double-figures as he finished the game with 10 points. Feinberg led the team on the boards with 10 rebounds to complete his third double-double of the season. Senior center Colt Stafford (Groveport, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) led the team in assists with three.
Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (January 14) when it travels to Latrobe, Pennsylvania to play Saint Vincent College at 4 p.m.
