NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's basketball team opened the 2012 portion of its schedule in style, picking up a 63-59 conference win over Mount Ida Saturday afternoon at Andrews Gymnasium.

Sophomore guard Tom McDonald had a game-high 17 points to lead the Cadets. McDonald went 3-of-9 from behind the three-point line, including a huge shot to put Norwich up by four with 29 seconds remaining in the game.

Senior guard Leland Brunswick contributed a strong effort for the Cadets (2-7, 1-2 GNAC) scoring 12 points and pulling down seven rebounds.

Mount Ida (3-7, 0-3 GNAC) was paced by Keith Jones 17 points, while Travis Hillery chipped in 12.

With the victory NU snaps a five-game slide that began on Nov. 29 versus Colby-Sawyer. The Cadets will look to make it two in a row when they travel to Paxton, Mass., to take on conference foe Anna Maria on Jan. 10.
