The Carthage College men's basketball team (7-6, 1-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) upended CCIW-opponent Millikin University (1-12, 0-2  CCIW), 86-50, on Saturday, Jan. 7 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.

The Red Men took the lead, for good, 15:48 first half and pulled away to a 24-point lead at halftime, 44-20.  The lead grew to as much as 41 points on four occasions in the second period, as Carthage cruised to a 36-point victory, 86-50.  The Red Men shot 49 percent (31-63), including six-of-20 three-pointers, while Millikin shot just 39 percent (17-44), including four-of-nine from three-point range.  Carthage had a 39-25 rebounding advantage over Millikin, and the Big Blue turned the ball over 21 times to nine for the Red Men.

Five Carthage players scored in double figures.  Max Cary (Sr., Geneva, Ill.) had 12 points on five-of-eight field goals.  Luke Johnson (Fr., Naperville, Ill./West Chicago-Wheaton Academy) scored 11 points with a game-high 11 rebounds and three assists.  Mitch Thompson (Jr., Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) had 11 points and seven boards.  Tyler Pierce (Jr., Westmont, Ill.) came off the bench to score 11 points, and Reese Herth (Fr., Morton Grove, Ill./Skokie-Niles West) also came off the bench to add 10 points.  Rodney Clark led Millikin with a game-high 14 points, while Brock Von Nordeck chipped in 12 points.

"This was a clash of styles," said Carthage coach Bosko Djurickovic, "and I feel bad for Millikin.  They played Augustana (Ill.) close on Wednesday night, so they came in here with some confidence.  Augustana didn't fracture them on the full court like we did.  We have good depth and good length, and we're very athletic.  That was all neutralized at North Central on Wednesday, but we put ourselves in a position to win this game.  We were active on the boards, and we needed that.  We need to keep playing some version of this style, and we probably need to keep playing at a faster pace, because it fits our personnel.  We're not strong enough to play a half-court, physical game."

Carthage plays host to CCIW-opponent North Park University (4-9, 0-2 CCIW) on Tuesday, Jan. 10 in a 7:30 p.m. game at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
