CORTLAND, N.Y. – Ryan Riefenahuser (Dobbs Ferry) scored a game-high 18 points, including the go-ahead layup with 3:16 remaining, as Geneseo edged Cortland, 63-60, in a SUNYAC matchup. The Knights are 2-2 in the conference and 4-7 overall, while the Red Dragons drop to 4-2 in the SUNYAC and 8-4 overall.

Riefenhauser hit 8-of-14 shots from the floor and also grabbed eight rebounds. Matt Curry (Greenlawn/Harborfields) scored 12 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, while Jordan Jones (Rochester/McQuaid) and Connor Fedge (Bellport) scored 10 points each. Fredge and Mike Hoy (Batavia) led the team with five assists each and Jones totaled five steals.

Junior Jesse Winter (Rockville Centre/South Side) led Cortland with 15 points and seven assists. Junior Harrison Hefele (Greenlawn/Friends Academy) finished with 13 points and junior Jeremy Smith (Bronx/Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy) added 10 points. Junior Brian Manning (Elmira/Southside) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Cortland trailed 48-34 after two free throws by Jones with 15:46 left in the second half. The Red Dragons went on a 22-8 run over the next 7:36 and tied the game at 56-56 with 8:08 remaining. Hefele scored eight points in that stretch, including the tying three-pointer, and senior Nick Sutedjo (Webster/Webster Schroeder) scored five points.

The Red Dragons took only their second lead of the night, and their first since the game's opening basket, when Hefele rattled home a three-pointer with 4:45 left to put them ahead 59-58. After each team failed to score on its next two possessions, Fedge was fouled with 3:23 left and made the first of two foul shots to knot the score. He missed the second shot, and each team had a chance to grab the rebound before the ball finally ended up in Riefenhauser's hands. He made an open layup and Geneseo led 61-59 with 3:16 left.

Riefenhauser extended the Geneseo lead to 63-59 on a short jumper with 2:01 left. After the teams traded possessions, Winter was fouled on a drive to the basket with just over 50 seconds left and made one of two free throws. Cortland stopped Geneseo on the ensuing possession and called timeout just over midcourt with a little more than eight seconds left. The Red Dragons, however, missed a potential game-tying three-pointer in the closing seconds and couldn't get off another shot attempt before the buzzer sounded.

Cortland will host Oneonta on Friday, Jan. 13, at 8 p.m.
