Choctaws Come Back for 72-65 Win Over McMurry

CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College men's basketball team outscored McMurry University by 17 points in the second half on their way to a 72-65 victory on Thursday night at A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Choctaws (3-7, 2-6 ASC) held the War Hawks (8-3, 4-3 ASC) to just 33% (22-66) shooting from the floor.  In each of MC's wins this season, they have held their opponents under 40% shooting.

McMurry jumped out to a 34-24 halftime lead after scoring four points in the final :11 seconds of the half.  The Choctaws bounced back early in the second half, knotting the game at 41-41 with 13:22 to go.

MC would take the lead for good, 48-46, with 11:13 remaining on a couple of free throws by sophomore Brandon Blake.

A lay-up by Steven Jones with 1:41 to go cut the MC lead to just 62-59, but the Choctaws would score the next six points and eventually clinch the victory.  In the final minute of play, MC made 6-8 free throws.

McMurry outrebounded the Choctaws, 41-40, but were averaging 18 more boards per game than their opponents on their season.  Seniors Chad Jones and Trevon Malone led the way for MC with nine boards apiece.

The second half comeback was headed up by 18 points from senior Greg Pulliam and a 52% (13-25) shooting clip by the Choctaws.  In the period, MC went 18-27 from the free throw line.

Pulliam led the Choctaws with 25 points on 9-14 shooting from the floor.  Blake scored 18 points, making 8-12 free throws, all in the second half.  Malone also scored in double-figures with 13.

Jones led McMurry with 15 points and nine rebounds.  Jaden Isler scored 11 points, while Bryce Hill chipped in 10.  Isler tallied a game-high eight assists.

The Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday when they host Hardin-Simmons at 1:00 p.m. in the "Golden Dome".
