PASADENA, Calif. – A late first half run spurred the Chapman men's basketball team to a 62-44 win over Caltech on Thursday afternoon at the Braun Athletic Center.

In a nip-and-tuck first half that featured six ties and five lead changes, the Beavers held the largest lead of the opening frame with 5:37 left until halftime. Ethan Boroson converted a lay-up from a Bryan Joel pass to nudge Caltech (4-5) in front 22-15.

However, the Panthers responded with a 15-2 scoring run to end the half in taking a 30-24 lead into the locker room. Chapman (8-4) forced the Beavers into 14 turnovers in the stanza as they held a 15-6 advantage in points off turnovers to aid in their intermission lead.

Boroson scored on Caltech's opening possession of the second half to bring the Beavers within 30-26. Chapman took all the game's momentum by scoring 12 unanswered points in grabbing a 44-28 with 14:21 left in the contest. Caltech chipped away to get their deficit down to 11 points but couldn't draw any closer down the stretch.

The Panthers inside game proved pivotal, as they grabbed 16 offensive rebounds en route to posting a 19-3 edge in second chance points. Chapman went 23-for-43 from the foul line while the Beavers converted on five of their nine attempts from the charity stripe.

Ben Ricard led the Chapman effort with a 19-point, 11-rebound performance in 28 minutes. Justin Young came off the bench to chip in a 12-point evening.

Andrew Hogue's 13-point night led all Caltech scorers.
