No. 5 Emory Tops Guilford, 96-84

ATLANTA, Ga. - Michael Friedberg totaled 26 points, eight rebounds and three blocks in Emory University's 96-84 home basketball win over Guilford College Saturday.

The Eagles (10-0), ranked fifth in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, shot 50 percent from the floor, including 13-of-34 (38%) from three-point range. Friedberg hit four of five three-pointer shots, all in the first half, and had 20 points at intermission. Alex Gulotta (12 points) added three trifectas as the Eagles made nine-of-20 three-pointers in opening period, which contributed to a 59-37 halftime lead.

Emory's lead grew to as many as 23 in the second half before Guilford (8-4) narrowed the gap by outscoring the hosts, 26-15, in the final 8:32. Josh Pittman scored 12 of his team-high 20 points in the second half for the Quakers. Carson Sullivan chipped in with a career-high 17 points, plus seven boards and five assists, both team bests. Gabriel Lowder finished with 14 for Guilford, which made 10-of-18 three-pointers and enjoyed a 42-36 rebounding edge.

Austin Claunch dropped in 23 points and Jake Davis added 20 for Emory. Claunch made two three-pointers and dished out a game-best eight assists.

The Quakers visit Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Emory & Henry College Wednesday (1/4) at 7:00 p.m.
