Faurote, Craig rescue Edgewood College in overtime

MADISON, Wis. – After a two week layoff, the Edgewood College men's basketball team almost got more than they could handle from North Park University. Edgewood College's Kent Faurote scored a career-high 29 points, but the Eagles needed a game-winner from Cashton Craig with 17 seconds left to top the Vikings 72-71 in overtime.

Edgewood College (10-1) trailed by as many as five points in the second half before coming back to take a 55-54 lead on a Ben Wisniewski jumper with 3:55 left. After North Park's Mark Gabriel converted a three-point play, Faurote tied the game at 57 before the Vikings scored consecutive baskets to earn a 61-57 lead with 1:43 to go in regulation.

Faurote then brought the Eagles back, drilling back-to-back three-point baskets to put the Eagles ahead 63-61 with 40 seconds left. After Craig went 1-for-2 from the free throw line, Mark Holmes connected on a three-point shot to tie the game with six seconds left. The Eagles could not convert on the other end, sending the game to overtime.

Holmes opened the extra session with a jumper to put the Vikings (4-7) ahead. Jake Guziewski quickly tied the game with a pair of free throw on the Eagles' next possession. Trailing 68-67, Faurote struck from long distance again, giving the Eagles a two-point cushion with 2:27 to go.

Emanuel Cosby made a free throw to cut the deficit to one and Roshawn Russell put North Park up 71-70 with 33 seconds left when he made a jumper. Craig was quick to respond as he took a pass from Guziewski and drilled a jumper from 19 feet out to put the Eagles up 72-71 with 17 second remaining. Holmes missed a three-point basket for the Vikings with six seconds left and Gabriel was unable to convert on two tip-ins as time expired to give the Eagles the narrow victory.

With the Eagles trailing 8-5 in the first half, Faurote sparked a run with his first three-point bucket of the game. His tripled tied the game and Wisniewski capped the 9-0 run with a free throw. Derek Nkemnji gave the Eagles their largest lead of the game at 22-12 with his only three-point basket of the game. Edgewood College led 28-18 before North Park went on 13-1 run to take a 31-29 lead with 4:26 left in the first half. Edgewood College responded and held a 36-33 lead at the break.

Faurote led the Eagles with his career-high 29 points to go along with 10 rebounds for the double-double. The senior was 10-for-19 from the floor, including 4-for-7 from three-point land. Wisniewski was the second of four Eagle scorers in double figures with 14 points. Craig and Nkemnji chipped in with 10 points apiece. Wisniewski led the Eagles with five assists.

For the Vikings, it was Holmes that led the way with 20 points while Gabriel followed with 15 points. Crosby chipped in with 13 and Russell scored 10 points.
