SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team shot over 70 percent from the floor in the first half on Saturday, and cruised to an 83-63 victory against Elizabethtown College at Maggs Physical Activities Center.

The win is the third in a row at home for the Sea Gulls (7-3), who shot 59.2 percent for the game.

Salisbury fell behind early, as Elizabethtown (2-7) opened the game on a 5-0 run, but three-point baskets from sophomore Tim Harwood and senior Mike Maczko helped the Gulls pull within one, 7-6, and a lay-up from junior Trent Epps with 14:51 left in the opening period, gave Salisbury its first lead of the day.

The game would be tied twice over the next two minutes, and the Blue Jays were able to gather the lead one more time before Salisbury went on an 18-3 run over less than four minutes to grab a 13-point edge with under nine minutes to play in the half.

The run started with three triples from freshman guard Chris Viqueira, who scored a career-best 14 points in the game. Salisbury would maintain the lead into halftime, taking a 48-35 edge to the locker room. Fifteen of Salisbury's 27 first-half field goal attempts came from beyond the arc, and Salisbury was true on nine tries (60 percent).

The 48 first-half points are the most scored by Salisbury in any first half this season, trailing just the 50 points scored in the second half against Pennsylvania State University-Abington for the most points scored in a half this year.

While the shooting cooled a bit after the break, Salisbury kept pushing and stretched the lead to as many as 23 before earning the 20-point win.

A number of Salisbury players were able to see their first action of the season on Saturday, including freshman Gergo Jenei, who scored his first collegiate point on a free throw late in the second half.

Viqueira's game-high effort was matched by Mazcko and senior Jason Nwosu with 14 points each while senior Mike Atkins added 13. Maczko also pulled down a game-best eight rebounds, blocked two shots and dished out three assists.

The Blue Jays were led by Steve Ennis and Will Schlosser, who had 10 points each.

The Sea Gulls will be back in action for their final game of the 2011 calendar year on Tuesday, when they travel to Washington (Md.) College. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
