Cougars Derail Road Runners, Extending Win Streak to 4 Games

Brooklyn, NY- The Cougars defeated the Ramapo Roadrunners 93-88 on Friday Dec. 9, at Medgar Evers College. The Cougars improved their record to 7-4 while the Roadrunners fell to 6-3. From the opening tip-off, the Cougars looked to be the superior team, jumping out to an early 6-0 lead ,causing the Road Runners to call a time out.  From that point on, the Cougars would not relinquish the lead, at times extending it to as many as 16 points.  

However, the Roadrunners would not go quietly.  Lead by Garret Thiel, who scored 29 points and was the leading scorer on the night, Ramapo would keep the game close with their quick mid range jumpshots and lightining fast drives to the basket.  The Roadrunners scored 46 points in the paint, where as the Cougars only managed to score 16.
  
What gave the Cougars the edge was the amazing three point shooting from Tony Sims (4-7), Sharif Boone (3-5), and Winston Douglas (3-4).  As a team the Cougars shot 46.7% from beyond the arc.

The Cougars also had a great night shooting from the free throw line.  Sims was perfect shooting 9-9, Jarrel Deare went 5-6 and Winston Douglas shot 7-10.

In the end, the Cougar bench helped seal the game. Led by Freshman Sharif Boone, who scored 15 points (a career high), the Cougar bench contributed 37 points while the Ramapo bench only put up 9 points.

 MEC shot better than Ramapo in all 3 categories (45.3%-44.1% FG, 47.6%-22.2% 3pt. range, 75.8%- 66.7% FT)

The Cougars will look to extend their win streak to 5 when they play Richard Stockton at the Albright College Tournament in Reading ,PA on December 29th. Game time is 6pm.
