Kalamazoo's Prepolec scores 1,000th career point

Kalamazoo College's Joe Prepolec scored his 1,000th career point in the Hornets' 75-66 win over Bluffton on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Prepolec, a 6-6 senior from Bloomfield Hills, Mich. (Andover HS), scored his 1,000th career point with just under 12 minutes left in the second half. He finished with 15 points and five rebounds while becoming the 20th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points (1,003).

Kalamazoo scored the first nine points of the game and led 11-2 three minutes into the contest. Bluffton battled back to take a 20-19 lead midway through the half. The teams traded leads a few times before Kalamazoo took a 38-34 lead into halftime. Kalamazoo led by as many as 17 points (53-36) with 13:54 left in the game, but Bluffton chipped away and cut the deficit to three (66-63) with 4:25 remaining. It was still a three-point game (69-66) with 2:24 left, but Kalamazoo scored the last six points of the game to take the 75-66 win.

Kalamazoo shot a season-best 50 percent from the field while sinking 8-of-21 three-pointers. Bluffton shot 34.3 percent overall while making 8-of-22 three-pointers. Bluffton held a 43-37 advantage in rebounds.

Eric Fishman led Kalamazoo in scoring with a career-high 22 points with eight rebounds and nine assists. Mark Ghafari scored 16 points with seven rebounds while sinking 3-of-6 three-pointers. Joe Prepolec scored 15 points with five rebounds while Joe Wilson added 11 points for the Hornets.

Josh Fisher led Bluffton with 18 points off the bench. Mychal Hill scored 15 points with five rebounds.

Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. against Denison.
