WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team earned its first win of the Rob Pryor era Wednesday evening with an 80-74 non-league victory over Penn State - Altoona.

Shenandoah (1-4) shot a blistering 60.0 percent (33 for 55) in giving Pryor his first career victory as head coach.

Pryor, a former Air Force Academy assistant took over the helm of the program last spring.

Even with the strong shooting performance, SU found itself a two-point ballgame with just under eight minutes remaining.

PSU-A (0-7), which had a 36-30 rebounding advantage, drained six of its nine 3-pointers on the night in the second half to make it 63-61 with 7:41 remaining.

SU answered with a 10-2 run, started by a baseline jam from senior Justin Long, and led by at least four points the rest of the way.

The Lions cut the deficit to four on two occasions, the last with 46 seconds remaining, but Shenandoah received big jumpers from Bryce Mitchell and Avery Green to halt the visitors momentum.

Green and Mitchell combined to hit 17 of 20 shots on the evening with Green making his first eight shots from the field.

Green finished with 21 points and Mitchell 17 to go along with six assists.

Sophomore James Bowens just missed his first career double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Eric Sarra had 16 points for PSU-A.

SU is back in action on Saturday at 2:00 with a home contest against future ODAC opponent Roanoke College.
