Edgewood College puts five players in double figures in win at Lakeland

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – Getting out of the gate fast helps when you are playing on the road. Kent Faurote gave the Edgewood College men's basketball team that start on Wednesday night at Lakeland College, scoring the first five points. The Eagles also used a big run to start the second half, scoring 21 of the first 24 points to take control of the game. Faurote led five Eagle scorers in double figures in the 86-68 victory.

After Faurote won the tip and scored the Eagles' first five points, Lakeland (3-2, 2-1 NAC) scored the next six points to take a 6-5 lead three minutes into the contest. With the score tied at 11, the Muskies' Josh Regal started a 7-0 run with a three-point basket. Cashton Craig ended the Muskie spurt when he hit a three-point basket with just over 12 minutes left in the first half.

Craig started an 11-0 run when he made a layup with just over 11 minutes to play, and Faurote stayed hot as he hit a three-point basket to pull the Eagles within one. Faurote then gave the Eagles a 21-20 lead when he nailed a pair of free throws with 9:45 left. Faurote hit two more free throws and Justin Williams capped the spurt with a layup.

Lakeland cut the deficit to 30-29 before the Eagles began to separate themselves at the end of the first half. Joe Klocek scored five points, including a triple that forced a Muskie timeout with 2:13 left in the half, on the Eagles' 8-2 run. Faurote scored his 21st point of the first half with 39 seconds left as he made a layup to give the Eagles their largest advantage of the half, 44-34 at halftime.

The Eagles (8-0, 3-0 NAC) started the second half red hot, scoring 10 of the first 12 points. Nkemnji started the frame with a layup just 10 seconds in and Jake Guziewski followed with a jump shot. After a Regal layup, Faurote hit a free throw and Guziewski drained a three-point basket. Craig gave the Eagles a 54-36 advantage with just over 18 minutes left when he made a jumper.

Edgewood College followed that run with an 11-0 run to take a commanding 65-39 lead with 14:51 remaining. Ben Wisniewski drilled a three-point basket to end the run. The lead swelled to 71-42 when Michael Janusek made a jumper from the middle of the lane with just more than 10 minutes left.

Lakeland tried to comeback and got within 18 with 1:54 left, but Brian Nkemnji answered with a three-point basket on the Eagles' next possession. Luther Tarver-Burks sank a free throw with 55 seconds left that gave the Eagles the 86-68 victory.

All five Edgewood College starters reached double figures, being led by Faurote who went 11-for-13 at the free throw line and finished with 26 points. Craig followed with 15 while Wisniewski, Guziewski and Derek Nkemnji all scored 10 points apiece. The last time the Eagles had five players in double figures was in the conference tournament against Concordia University Wisconsin on February 25.

The Eagles turned in their best shooting effort of the season, going 32-for-57 from the floor for 56.1 percent. Edgewood College also held the Muskies to 37.5 percent (23-for-60) from the floor.
