ANGOLA, Ind. - It was the most impressive win under first year head coach Brooks Miller for the young Trine University men's basketball team as they easily handled North Park University 86-57. The Thunder improved to 4-2 on the season and a perfect 3-0 at home.
The Vikings led only twice early on in the contest at 3-2 and 6-5. The Thunder led by only a point with just under 11 minutes left in the opening half but quickly turned that into an 18 points lead by halftime at 43-25. The Trine defense held the Vikings to just 10 points over the final 10 minutes of the half.
Trine kept the pressure on in the second half as their lead slowly grew to as much as 32 points. North Park tried to get something going but was never able to pull closer than 27 as the two sides traded buckets over the final five minutes.
Eleven different players scored for the Thunder led by freshman Isaac Loechle (Greensburg, Ind./North Decatur) who scored a career-high 18 points, with 15 coming from long range. Senior Tim Pearcy (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) scored double-digits for the fifth time this season adding in 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Pearcy also pulled down a game-high six rebounds. Ian Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) added in 14 points to go along with four rebounds and two steals. Sophomore Chris Kent (Angola, Ind./Angola) and freshman Dustin Hall (Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side) led Trine with four assists each.
Trine shot a season high 55 percent (33-for-60) from the floor for the afternoon. Trine was able to force 18 Viking turnovers, turning them into 26 points. With the win, Trine improves to 3-1 all-time against North Park.
Trine will travel look to earn a road win as they travel to Purdue North Central on December 6 for an 8:00 p.m. (est.) tip-off.
