Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore swingman Eric Dean (Gilford, N.H.) had 11 points and nine rebounds to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 84-48 victory over the visiting Newbury College Nighthawks in men's basketball action this afternoon on Stan Ogrodnik Court at Oosting Gym. Trinity, improves to 5-2, while the Knighthawks drop to 3-4 with their second loss in a row.

Trinity came to play, bursting out to an 11-0 lead 2:15 into the game after a three-pointer by Dean, and leading by as many as 19 points in the first half. Dean scored all of points in first 20 minutes and had seven of Trinity's 25 first-half rebounds which gave the Bantams a 25-to-18 edge on the glass. Newbury junior guard Tim Young (Brockton, Mass.) had eight of his game-high 23 points in the first stanza.

A three-pointer by Nighthawk sophomore guard Eric Watson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and a layup by Young cut the Bantam lead to 36-26 1:40 into the second half, but Trinity outscored Newbury, 26-6, over the next 9:30 to lead, 62-32, with nine minutes left to play. Trinity freshman center George Papadeas (Athens Greece) scored 11 points off the bench, while rookie Steve Spirou (Pelham, N.H.) and sophomore Leonard Chenfeld (New York, N.Y.) added 10 points apiece. Trinity finished with a 47-to-35 edge on the boards and shot 58.1 percent from the field in the second half and 48.4 percent for the game, while also sinking 15 out of 18 shots from the foul line. Watson joined Young in double figures in scoring for the Nighthawks with 12 points and added five rebounds.
