Choctaws Fall to Sul Ross in Foul-Ridden Game, 70-59

CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College men's basketball team was called for 31 fouls and had three players foul out in a 70-59 loss to Sul Ross State on Thursday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

In the first half alone, MC was whistled for 17 fouls, including four players earning two.

The Choctaws (0-3, 0-3 ASC) scored the first eight points of the game and held Sul Ross (2-3, 2-1 ASC) without a field goal over the first 6:37.

The Lobos grabbed the lead with 6:51 to go in the first half on a basket by Trevor Doyle.  They would build the lead to as many as seven, but MC scored six of the final seven points to trail 31-29 at the half.

The two teams were tied five times and exchanged leads four times in the second half.  With 3:59 remaining, senior Greg Pulliam cut the Sul Ross lead to 57-56.  The Lobos outscored MC 13-3 over the final four minutes to clinch the victory.

Senior Trevon Malone led the Choctaws with 17 points and nine rebounds, including four offensive boards.  Pulliam poured in 16 points and three rebounds.

The Choctaws outrebounded Sul Ross, 39-35, but only shot 36% (21-59) from the floor, inlcuding going 2-16 from the three-point line.

Colton Thompson came off the bench to record a double-double with 27 points and 12 rebounds.  Thompson went 8-11 from the floor and 11-16 from the free throw line.  Bralyn Thomas was also in double-figures with 12 points.

The Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday when they host Howard Payne at 3:00 p.m. in the "Golden Dome".
