More news about: Macalester

Macalester hosted Concordia-Moorhead for its home-opener and MIAC-opener and came out on the short end of a 64-57 score Wednesday night at the Leonard Center.

Macalester forwards Sam Marshall (Jr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) and Pierce Peters (Jr., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area) had big nights to keep the Scots within striking range throughout.  Marshall finished with 20 points and eight rebounds, going 9-for-15 from the floor.  Peters blocked five shots and closed out with 16 points and seven boards.

Lamont Diggs (So., Fridley, Minn.) sparked the Scots off the bench, producing eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.  Diggs grabbed six of his team's 11 offensive boards.  Hans Erickson (Fy., La Crosse, Wis. / Logan) distributed four assists,

Both teams were cold from three-point territory, combining to go just 3-for-22 (13.7%).  Each squad shot 38% for the night.  Macalester went 15-for-22 from the free throw stripe compared to 13-for-25 for CC.  A couple big factors were 16-9 Concordia margins in both points off turnovers and second chance points.

Macalester was within two points in the second half on three occasions in this evenly-played game and were down by three at 58-55 with 2:51 to play, but could get no closer.

Concordia's Ebo Nana-Kweson netted 18 points to go along with nine rebounds and three blocks.  Dewon McKenzie had 11 points and three steals.

The Scots will try to even their MIAC record Saturday (Dec. 3) when they host the Bethel Royals at 3 p.m.
