Maiarana Shoots Mavs Past Penn State-Behrend in AMCC Opener

More news about: Medaille

ERIE, PA - The Medaille College men's basketball team opened up conference play this evening when they headed on the road to face rival Penn State-Behrend.  In a game that saw neither team lead by more than six points, the Mavs prevailed (61-55).

This was truly a back and forth affair in which the lead exchanged hands (16) times and found the score tied on a dozen different occasions.  However, the Mavs would find themselves with a three point lead at the half and then matched that feat by outscoring the Lions by three more in the second half, en route to the six point win.

Leading the way for Medaille was Phil Maiarana who was the only Mav to reach double digits in the scoring column as he netted a season high (20) points on (6 of 12) shooting from the floor.  He knocked down (3 of 8) shots from behind the arc and went (5 for 7) from the charity stripe.  Phil also pulled down a team high five boards and dished out a team best three assists on the night.

Rookie Sean Bellomo chipped in with (8) points on (4 of 8) shooting while also blocking a pair of Behrend shot attempts.  Meanwhile, Alex Baron, Tyler Stevens, and David Shuey each dropped in seven points in a game that saw nine Medaille players find their way to the scoring ledger.

The win keeps the Mavs slate clean as they improve to (6-0) overall and (1-0) in AMCC play.  They will head back on the road this weekend when they face Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday (12/3) at 1:00pm for another conference match-up.
