Scots claim season home opener in MC Classic 94-66

The Maryville College men's basketball claimed their 2011 home opener during the MC Classic when they defeated Oglethorpe University 94-66 in the Boydson Baird Gymnasium on Saturday evening.

The Scots connected on 51% of all their attempts from the floor while holding the Stormy Petrels to 40% shooting and forcing 15 turnovers. MC was strong on the boards with 48 rebounds to OU's 26. MC was in the mood to share as they also finished with 23 team assists.

Oglethorpe (1-3) was paced by Sam Purdy's 10 points while Alec Pitts, Branden Jovaag, and Mackeile Satchell each added nine points.

Maryville (3-1) had four players post double digit efforts. Rande Sibley was 4-for-9 and 3-for-8 from beyond the arc to finish with a game-high 16 points. He also led MC with five assists. Oscar Butler finished with 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Maverick Willett and Joey Bodewig also tallied seven boards to help MC out-rebound Oglethorpe. Milton Stanley and Ben Williamson each finished with 10 points.

In the earlier game of the Thanksgiving Holiday tournament, No. 13 Emory University defeated LaGrange 107-89.

Sunday's challenges will include a 2:00 tip-off as LaGrange will play Oglethorpe. At 4:00 the Scots will host Emory University.
