Gwynedd-Mercy Wins CSAC Opener, Defeats Rosemont, 79-62

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA -- In their Colonial States Athletic Conference and home opener Gwynedd-Mercy took out Rosemont, 79-62, Tuesday evening. Junior Doug Berzins led the Griffins with a team-high 15 points, knocking down four of the team's eight three pointers.

The first half saw GM (2-1, 1-0 CSAC) take a commanding 41-22 lead at the break.  Senior Dan DelConte connected on four field goals, three of which came from behind the arc to give him 12 points for the half and 14 for the contest. The Griffins pounded the Ravens on the glass outrebounding them 21-8 for the half and scoring nine points off second chance opportunities.

In the second half, Rosemont (1-2, 0-1 CSAC) came out on a 13-2 run capped off by a three from Kevin Fenstermaker to cut the Gwynedd-Mercy lead to nine.  After a timeout, the Griffins answered, building their lead back up to 19 over the next six minutes as Berzins would hit for two key three-pointers in that stretch

Sophomore Brandyn Wims helped the cause, adding thirteen points, six rebounds, and three assists.

The Griffins shot 49.1% (27-of-55) from the floor and made 17-of-23 free throws.  The Griffins bench also contributed tonight outscoring the Ravens 24-12.  Freshman Tom McKeefery scored eight points and pulled down two rebounds off the bench.

The Ravens were held to 42.4% shooting (25-of-59), making seven three-pointers and going just 5-of-8 from the charity stripe.  Harrison Carsillo led the Ravens scoring 16 points.  Rosemont also got contribution from Tremell Green, who added 11 and Fenstermaker with 10.

The Griffins held a big rebounded edge over the Ravens, 47-18.  Senior Brandon Williams led GM with eight rebounds.  Justin Chaney led the Ravens with five.

Gwynedd-Mercy will now break for Thanksgiving and return to action Monday night hosting CSAC foe Baptist Bible College at 8 p.m.
