The University of Redlands men's basketball team tipped off at home for the first time this season but fell to the visiting Chapman University Panthers by a score of 56-51 on Saturday in Currier Gym.

During the first half, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early seven-point lead, only to see it disappear less than five minutes later.

With the score tied at 27 to start the second half, Chapman pulled away with solid shooting to create a 44-36 lead with 11:08 left in the game.

From here, the Maroon and Gray responded with an 8-0 run, mainly on solid free-throw shooting, to tie it up.

The teams traded points until Chapman finished the final four minutes with lights-out shooting. Redlands cut the deficit to one with 1:21 to play, but the Bulldog offense failed to convert a score in the waning seconds, leading to the five-point loss.

Junior guard Brian Kuklok (Poway, CA) led the Bulldog offense with 13 points, while junior forward Josiah Brensdal (Kent, WA) chipped in 12 as the only other double-digit scorer. Senior center Jack Colston (Dana Point, CA) nabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Chapman looked to a well-balanced offense, which included senior point guard Brandon Lin (Corona, CA) as the team's leader with 14. He drained three baskets from beyond the arc, including one with 3:18 to play, which broke the game's eighth tie for Chapman's (2-0) final lead.

Redlands (0-2) remains in the hunt for the men's basketball program's 1000th win when it hosts Westmont College on Tuesday in a 7:30 p.m. showdown.
