WAVERLY, Iowa (November 19, 2011) - If Carter Ciolkosz (Fr, Maplewood, Minn) keeps this up, UW-Stout basketball fans will know how to pronounce Ciolkosz's last name soon enough.
Ciolkosz scored a game-high 22 points - 15 in the first half - as the Blue Devils defeated Wartburg College, 68-52, in the championship game of the Wartburg College Buzz Levrick Tournament Saturday. Ciolkosz was named the tournament most valuable player.
Ciolkosz (pronounced chol kus) hit 6-of-12 from the floor, downed 4-of-8 3-point shots and was perfect at the line in six attempts to tally 22 points in his second game as a Blue Devil.
Stout (2-0) never trailed in this contest, running out to as much as a 20 point lead midway through the second half.
Jarvis Ragland (So, Milwaukee) had his second double-digit game of the season. He followed up a 23 point performance on Friday against Macalester with 17 points against Wartburg. Ragland was 7-of-13 from the floor on Saturday and was named to the all-tournament team.
Erik Olson (Jr, Buffalo, Minn) dished off eight assists.
The was the first-ever meeting between the Knights (1-1) and the Blue Devils. Wartburg got 21 points from Jordan Sathoff and Thomas Perkins added 10 points.
Stout will host NCAA Division II Bemidji State University, Tuesday,Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. Stout will then host the Quality Inn & Suites Turkey Shootout Nov. 26-27. Stout opens the tournament with Northland College.
