Crown holds off Macalester 50-47

Macalester met Crown in the consolation game of the Wartburg College Buzz Levick Invitational in Waverly, Iowa, and it was the Crown Purple Storm holding off the Scots 50-47.

Crown goes to 1-1 in the early going, while Macalester falls to 0-2 heading into the season's third game, Tuesday (Nov. 22) at Northwestern-Roseville.

Pierce Peters (Jr., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area) played 38 minutes and finished with 19 points to pace the Scots.  Justin Wasik contributed 12 pionts and eight rebounds, and Sam Marshall (Jr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) came off the bench to collect four steals.

Leading the way for Crown was Anthijuan Beeks Jr. with 13 points and 13 rebounds.  Taylor Jones also netted 13 points.  Roland Owczarek finished with 10 points and four assists.

The game started with a Peters three-pointer and Macalester led for nearly the entire first half.  Peters had 10 first-half points and the score was tied 26-26 at the intermission.  Crown enjoyed a slight lead for much of the second half, but Macalester re-gained the advantage on a Marshall steal and Wasik layup to go up 46-45 with 1:48 to play.  Crown took the lead for good with 1:27 to play.
