Elmhurst Topples Cornell 79-62

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team evened its record at 1-1 by toppling Cornell College 79-62 in the Bluejays' home-opener.

Cornell (1-2) led 20-17 midway through the opening half, but the Bluejays ripped off the next 18 points to open up a 35-20 lead with 5:32 remaining in the half. The Bluejays pushed their lead up to 43-25 at the half.

Elmhurst extended its lead to 23-points early in the second half before a 14-4 run pulled the Rams to within 13 points with just under six minutes left in the game. The Bluejays responded with a 12-2 run to push their lead back to 22 points and put the game out of reach.

Elmhurst shot 57.7 percent (16-of-28) from the floor, including 50 percent (6-of-12) from beyond the arc. Cornell shot 42.1 percent (24-of-57) from the field, including 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from three-point range. Cornell finished the game with a 31-26 edge on the glass.

Zack Boyd pumped in 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds, both game highs, to lead the Bluejays in the win. Boyd shot 8-of-9 from the floor and added four assists for Elmhurst. Jerome Robinson shot 7-of-8 from the field to finish with 15 points. James Robertson added 11 points, five assists, and four steals for the Bluejays. Nick Sanford finished with eight points and five rebounds while D'Ante Foster and Mike McCurdy scored seven points apiece.

Reggie Greenwood led Cornell with 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists Alex Miller added 11 points and Nick Bobb scored 10 for the Rams.

Elmhurst hosts Carleton College next Wednesday (November 23).
