Baldwin-Wallace Men's Basketball Team Falls to Bethany (W. Va.) College, 72-65, In First Road Contest of Season

BETHANY, WEST VIRGINIA – Sophomore All-OAC forward Kyle Payne (Brunswick) scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds as the Baldwin-Wallace men's basketball team fell to Bethany (W.Va. ) College, 72-65, tonight (Friday, November 18, 2011) in the Hummel Field House inside the Thomas Phillips Johnson Health and Recreation Center.  

In addition to Payne, sophomore guards Kevin Krakowiak (Valley City/ Holy Name) and Grant Fairhurst (Ashland) both scored in double-digits for the Yellow Jackets.  Krakowiak netted 13 points to go with five rebounds and Fairhurst had 13 points to go along with his four rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring when Payne split a pair of free throws at the 18:39 mark of the first half to take a 1-0 lead.
 
After the Bisons gained a 13-8 lead, B-W went on a 5-0 run to tie the score (13-13) at the 11:20 mark when Fairhurst nailed a three-pointer.  Bethany responded with a 5-0  run when Brady Pacific made a layup then followed that with a three-pointer to push their lead to 18-13 with 9:49 remaining. The Bisons then pushed their lead to 30-18 with 3:49 left in the first half which included a 12-2 run.

The Yellow Jackets fought back to get within seven points (32-25) with 23 seconds left on freshman guard Jaron Crowe (Mentor) knocked down two free throws.  Bethany led 34-32 intermission as Pacific scored on a layup with four seconds remaining.

In the second half, the Bisons would outscored B-W 23-15 over the first 12:00 minutes of the half to increase their lead to 50-40  

The Yellow Jackets fought back going on a 19-9 run to tie the game (59-59) on a layup by Payne with 4:32 left in the game.

After the game was tied for the fifth time (63-63), Bethany would  outscored B-W 12-2 over the final 1:37 to secure the win.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, November 22 when they travel to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania to take on Waynesburg University in a non-conference game at 6:00 p.m.  B-W will return to friendly confines of the Ursprung Gymnasium on Saturday, December 3 when it will play host to defending Ohio Athletic Conference Champion Marietta College at 3:00 p.m.
