HOBOKEN, N.J. – Three Pioneers were in double figures in scoring as the William Paterson men's basketball team (2-0) defeated King's (1-1), 82-66, in the first round of the Stevens Tip-Off Tournament Nov. 18.

WP will face the winner of the Stevens/Purchase game Saturday, Nov. 19, in the championship game at 4:00 p.m.

Junior guard Corey Chandler (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) led all players with 21 points and six assists, making eight of 15 (.533) attempts from the field.  Sophomore center Femi Agunbiade (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) posted 11 points and six boards, freshman Jaques Conceicao (Massama-Lisboa, Portugal/Francais Charle Lepierre) went 4-for-5 for 10 points and five rebounds, and junior guard Lance Brown (Teaneck, N.J./Paterson Catholic) added 10 tallies and a game-best seven rebounds.

Ahead 39-35 at halftime and 43-39 2:27 into the second half, the Pioneers scored six straight points to build a double-digit lead (49-39, 16:05), and a later 16-4 run made it a 77-55 contest with 4:32 to play.  Brown scored all 10 of his points after the intermission and helped WP out-rebound King's by a 27-9 count during the final 20 minutes.

William Paterson overcame the Monarchs' 8-for-16 (.500) shooting from three-point range by utilizing an 18-9 edge on the offensive glass for a 22-10 edge in second-chance points.

Allen Kuiper led King's with 14 points and five rebounds, while Matt Fiorino and Joe Caffrey added 12 points apiece.
