Andre Simon's bucket with just 1.4 seconds to play lifted Randolph-Macon to a 90-88 victory over Christopher Newport in men's basketball action on Tuesday night in Ashland. The game was the 2011-12 opener for both squads.
Simon finished the night with a career-high 28 points and 11 rebounds. Calvin Croskey had 16 points for R-MC, while Adam Desgain and Lamar Giggetts had 15 and 11 points, respectively for the Jackets in the victory.
The game was tight throughout with R-MC by just five at 60-55 with just under 13 minutes to go in the game. Randolph-Macon scored the next seven points, taking a 67-55 advantage on a three-pointer by Croskey.

CNU rallied down the stretch, going on a 21-6 run that was capped by a Conley Taylor three pointer with six seconds reaming that tied the score at 88-88.
