#24 Pointers roll past Lawrence in season-opener, 80-58

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - Dan Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph/Minn.-Duluth) scored a career-high 29 points on 10-of-14 shooting including 5-of-7 from three-point range as the No. 24 ranked Pointers opened their season with an 80-58 victory over Lawrence University Tuesday evening at Bennett Court.

Tyler Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph) gave UW-Stevens Point an early 12-2 lead on a layup two and a half minutes into the game as the Tillema brothers scored the first 12 points of the season for the Pointers.
At the 6:30 mark, junior Jordan Giordana (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) connected on a three-point shot giving UWSP a 19-point lead, 33-14.

Dan Tillema closed out the first half connecting on a three pointer with six seconds remaining as UWSP took a 39-21 advantage into the break. The senior tallied 17 first-half points.

Point continued their fast-paced offense as they built a 27-point lead on two occasions, one on a three-pointer by Trevor Hass (New London, WI/New London/Augustana (SD)) and another on a jumper by Jordan Brezinski (Muskego, WI/Muskego).

The Vikings cut the lead to 16 with 1:58 remaining, however, UWSP answered with a 6-0 run resulting in an 80-58 final in favor of the Pointers.

Along with his career-high 29 points, Dan Tillema  also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Tyler Tillema  also score in double figures with 11 while Brrezinski added nine and Giordana and Austin Ryf (Winneconne, WI/Winneconne) chipped in with eight apiece. Tyler Tillema also handed out a game-high seven assists.

Davis DeWolfe led the Vikings in scoring and rebounding with 19 points and seven rebounds. Chris Sievert and Ryan DePouw also scored in double figures with 15 and 14 apiece, respectively.

UWSP held Lawrence to 39.2 percent shooting on the evening while the Pointers shot a blistering 61.5 percent in the first half and finished the game at 52.5 percent.

The Pointers (1-0) return to action this weekend as they head to the east coast to take on Stockton (NJ) Friday at 8:00 Eastern time. They will follow that game up against either York or Elizabethtown (PA) at 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. EST Saturday. Both games will be played in York, Penn.
