SUNY-Plattsburgh works past Cadets

NORTHFIELD, VT. – An 11-0 run midway through the first half helped key visiting SUNY-Plattsburgh to a 79-57 non-conference win over Norwich Nov. 15.

The Cadets' 2011-12 season opener got out to a good start for the nearly 250 in attendance in Andrews Gymnasium. NU bolted out to a 6-3 lead and stayed close to the Cardinals with inside of 10 minutes to go in the first half. Trailing only 17-15 with 9:09 to go, NU saw their guests take off the decisive rally and increase their lead to 42-26 at halftime.

SUNY-Plattsburgh jumped out to a quick start in the second frame, upping their lead to as much as 24 points. However, Coach Paul Booth's squad whittled away and trailed only 69-53 with 3:20 to go. The Cardinals ended the game on a 10-4 run.

NU put three players in double figures. Junior forward Brandon Kuhre (Lebanon, N.H.) led the trio with 14 points, hitting four-of-eight three-pointers and going a perfect two-for-two from the free throw line. Senior forward Antonio Davis (Albany, N.Y.) and junior forward Ryan Williams (Dallas, Texas) each chipped in 10 points. Davis added a team-high six rebounds and a co-team-best two steals.

Norwich resumes a three-game week by facing tournament host Western New England at its invitational Friday, Nov. 18. Tip-off is 8 p.m. inside the Alumni Healthful Living Center on WNEC's campus in Springfield, Mass.
