CHICAGO -- Junior capped a 39-point performance with the winning basket in the game's closing seconds as the University of Chicago men's basketball team edged New York University 82-80 in University Athletic Association action Sunday at the Ratner Center.

Johnson hit a three-point shot, his seventh of the day, with 15 seconds remaining in the contest to give Chicago (9-15 overall, 6-7 UAA) the come-from-behind victory. Johnson's 39 points were the most scored by a Chicago player in the Ratner Center, eclipsing Scott Fisher's 33-point output against Kalamazoo College on Dec. 16, 2003.

NYU (14-10, 3-10) maintained the advantage for the final ten minutes of the first half en route to taking a 43-40 lead at the intermission.

The Violets increased their lead to double digits, 65-55, on Carl Yaffe's three-pointer midway through the second stanza.

Chicago trailed 74-67 at the 4:12 mark before tying the game at 74-74 on a Johnson three-pointer with 2:45 to play.

Andy Stein's three-point shot gave NYU an 80-76 lead with 1:29 left, but Johnson answered with a trey of his own on the Maroons' next possession.

Following Johnson's go-ahead bakset, NYU had a chance to tie the game when Stein went to the free throw line for two shots with :04 left on the clock.

After missing the first attempt, he intentionally missed the second. Yaffee came up with the rebound and attempted a game-tying jumper from the corner, but Steve Stefanou rejected the shot to preserve the victory.

Johnson connected on 12 of 25 attempts from the field, including seven of 17 from three-point distance. He also contributed seven rebounds and three assists. Stefanou finished with 11 points off the bench.

Yaffe (24 points) and Stein (21) combined for 45 of the Violets' 80 points. Richie Polan and Kyle Stockmal added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Making its final home appearance of the season, Chicago snapped a three-game losing skid.
