CHICAGO -- Five players tallied double digits as Brandeis University defeated the University of Chicago 71-63 in University Athletic Association men's basketball action Friday night at the Ratner Athletics Center.
Brandeis (16-7 overall, 6-6 UAA) closed out the first half on a 13-6 run to take a 33-26 lead at the intermission. The Judges then outscored Chicago 7-2 during the early going of the second period to open up a 40-28 edge.
With the Maroons down 59-46 with 8:24 to go, Matt Johnson scored nine of his team's next 11 points as Chicago cut the gap to three, 61-58, at the 3:31 mark.
Anthony Trapasso helped Brandeis seal the win with a three-pointer and a layup 49 seconds apart as the Judges expanded their lead back to eight with just under two minutes to play. Trapasso paced Brandeis with 13 points.
Johnson led all scorers with 19 points as Chicago fell to 8-15 overall, 5-7 in the UAA. Tom Williams finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Brandeis' Youri Dascy added 12 points, 10 of which came in the second half. Tyrone Hughes (11), Ben Bartoldus (10), and Jay Freeman (10) also scored in double figures.
