Wheaton College men top Millikin 78-55

Decatur, Ill. – The Wheaton College men's basketball team picked up its fourth win in its last five games with a 78-55 victory at Millikin (1-21/0-12 CCIW) on Wednesday night. Wheaton is now 17-7 on the season, with an 8-5 record in conference play. The Thunder will conclude the regular season on Saturday night at 7:30 PM against Elmhurst. A Wheaton victory against the Bluejays on Saturday will secure a spot for the Thunder in next weekend's CCIW Men's Basketball Tournament.

The Thunder took a 10-2 lead in the first six minutes of the game tonight. The Big Blue cut their deficit to three points with a 21-18 Thunder lead with 7:54 left in the first half. Wheaton then responded with 10-unanswered points to extend its lead to 31-18 with 4:15 left before halftime. The Thunder run helped pace the guests to a 37-24 lead at halftime of the contest.

Wheaton maintained its double-digit lead throughout the second half. The largest lead of the game for the Thunder was a 33-point advantage at 78-45 with 3:25 left in the contest. Wheaton committed just one turnover in the game as the Thunder out-scored the Big Blue 23-0 in points off of turnovers.

Senior Andrew Jahns scored a career-high 26 points to lead Wheaton. The team captain also established a career-high with six three-pointers. All-American forward Tim McCrary scored 18 points, with seven rebounds and five assists. Junior Spencer Schultze scored 13 points, with six rebounds. Guards Jeremy Pflederer and Tyler Peters each scored eight points. Peters grabbed six rebounds and Pflederer grabbed five rebounds, with three assists.

Kyle Taylor led Millikin with 17 points. Kelvin Jacobs added 13 points, with nine rebounds for the hosts and Jacob Shasteen scored 10 points.

Wheaton shot 42.1% (24-57) from the field, with 39.1% (9-23) from three-point range and 72.4% (21-29) at the free throw line. Millikin posted a 39.6% (19-48) field goal percentage, with 37.5% (3-8) from three-point range and 73.7% (14-19) at the charity stripe. Millikin held a 37-34 edge in rebounding, with Thunder holding a 12-11 advantage on the offensive glass.
