Kearns Leads Devils Past Hopkins 59-48

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's basketball team took control late in the game on the way to a key 59-48 Centennial Conference win over visiting Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Red Devils started strong as well, opening the game with a 13-2 run. Hopkins rallied with a 10-0 to trail by just a point with 8:09 remaining in the half. The Devils saw the lead stretch to five and back to one before holding a 24-21 advantage at the break.

 

Dickinson came out in the second half and quickly extended the lead to 33-22 at the 14:49 mark. The Devils held Hopkins to just three points for the opening nine minutes of the second half, holding a 42-24 lead with 10:30 left to play.

 

The Blue Jays used an 8-2 run to pull within 12 before the Devils answered with an 8-2 run to match their biggest lead of the game, 52-34, with 4:14 remaining in regulation. Hopkins closed out the game with a 14-7 run for the final margin of 59-48.

 

Senior Pat Kearns (Hartford, Conn./East Catholic) came off the bench to lead the way with a game-high 14 points, hitting 4-of-6 field-goals and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Classmate Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) added 10 points and four rebounds, hitting 4-of-5 free throws.

 

First-years Brian Gerney (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) and Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) tallied nine and eight points, respectively, each adding an assist and a steal. Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) went 5-for-6 from the stripe while junior Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) controlled a game-high eight rebounds to go with five points.

 

Tim McCarty led Johns Hopkins (4-13, 2-8) with 10 points and four rebounds.

 

The Red Devils (8-9, 6-4) travel to Gettysburg College on Wednesday for a double-header with the women. The women tip-off at 6:00 pm, followed by the men at approximately 8:00 pm.
